14 DevOps, Cloud & AI Certifications Worth Your Money in 2026 (and How to Prep for Free)

Seven domains, fourteen certifications, and the free courses, videos, and labs to pass each one, plus the link to book the exam.

This article skips all the outdated ones and covers only the 14 DevOps, cloud & AI certifications worth your money.

In each domain, the first certification is the solid one to start with, and the second is the one that sets you apart.

The prep for every certification below can be completely free. Only the exam costs money.

Before You Start: The Free Platforms You'll Keep Seeing

Instead of repeating these under every cert, here they are once:

1. DevOps & SRE

HashiCorp Terraform Associate (004)

Proves you can write, plan, and manage infrastructure as code. Multiple choice, but heavily practical.

AWS DevOps Engineer – Professional or Google Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer

Pick the cloud you already work in. Both test CI/CD, observability, incident response, and automating everything at scale.

2. Containers & Kubernetes

CKAD (Certified Kubernetes Application Developer)

Hands-on, two hours in a live terminal. Proves you can deploy and run applications on Kubernetes.

CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator)

Hands-on, two hours. Proves you can install, operate, and troubleshoot the cluster itself, and it's the prerequisite for CKS in Section 3.

Good to know: Every Linux Foundation exam includes one free retake and two killer.sh simulator sessions. Check KSUG.AI for a discount code before you pay.

3. Security

CompTIA Security+

The credential that gets you your first security role.

Version alert: A new version (SY0-801) is expected to launch on November 17, 2026, and the current SY0-701 exam retires June 11, 2027. Both earn the same Security+ credential. If you're already studying 701, finish it. If you're starting from scratch after November, study for 801.

CKS (Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist)

Hands-on, two hours. Requires an active CKA.

Not on Kubernetes? Take the cloud route instead: AWS Security – Specialty (free prep on Skill Builder) or Google Professional Cloud Security Engineer (free path on Google Skills). For AWS, our IAM full course, IAM least privilege, and VPC flow logs (1, 2) crash courses cover a big chunk of the exam.

4. Data Engineering

AWS Data Engineer – Associate or Google Professional Data Engineer or Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer (DP-700)

Pick the cloud you work in. All three test ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and governance.

Databricks Certified Data Engineer (Associate → Professional)

Spark and lakehouse at scale. It doesn't depend on any one cloud, so it stacks on top of any of the three above. Start with Associate; Professional is the one that really sets you apart.

5. AI Engineering

AWS Machine Learning Engineer – Associate or Google Professional Machine Learning Engineer

Proves you can take a model from data to a production pipeline on a cloud platform.

Version alert (AWS): The exam is moving from MLA-C01 to MLA-C02, which adds foundation models, Bedrock, RAG, and agentic AI. Make sure any course or practice test you use says MLA-C02.

NVIDIA-Certified Professional: Generative AI LLMs (NCP-GENL)

Design, fine-tune, optimize, and deploy LLMs. This is the deep end of AI engineering, not prompt engineering.

6. AI Infrastructure & MLOps

NVIDIA-Certified Associate: AI Infrastructure & Operations (NCA-AIIO)

Proves you understand GPU compute, AI networking, storage, and how AI clusters get managed.

NVIDIA-Certified Professional: AI Infrastructure (NCP-AII) or AI Operations (NCP-AIO)

Two halves of the same job. AII = deploy and validate GPU infrastructure (drivers, container toolkit, MIG, networking). AIO = monitor, troubleshoot, and schedule AI workloads (Kubernetes, Slurm, Run:ai). DevOps people usually start with AIO.

Heads up: NVIDIA recommends 2–3 years of data center experience for the Professional exams. Take NCA-AIIO first unless you already work with GPU clusters.

7. Forward Deployed Engineer

AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02)

Cloud vocabulary that gets you past HR filters. Any practitioner-level cert works (AZ-900, Google Cloud Digital Leader), but AWS is the most common.

Claude Certified Architect – Foundations

Agentic architecture, MCP, tool design, Claude Code, and context management: the systems an FDE actually deploys at customers. Proctored, 60 questions.

Level up later: Anthropic now also offers Claude Certified Architect – Professional for enterprise-scale deployments, plus a Developer – Foundations track if you're more builder than architect.

Crash Course Quick List

Every crash course from this article, grouped by domain:

One Rule Before You Book

Never pay list price. The Microsoft voucher tracker covers DP-700, passing one AWS exam has typically earned 50% off the next, and NVIDIA exams are often free for in-person GTC attendees. Ten minutes of searching regularly saves $100–$400.

CKA discount: Book the CKA through this link and use code VISHAKHA at checkout for a discount.

All prep resources above are free courses, official free platforms, free labs, or free YouTube content. Exam versions, eligibility rules, and prices change often, so confirm details on the official page before booking. If a video link has moved, search its title to find the current version.
